In the heart of the Darenth Valley in Kent in a small town surrounded by fencing and hoarding lies Horton Kirby Paper Mill.
With the high fencing and main roadround the site the only reall acess was to walk down a stream and into the site. The stream would have originally supplied the Mill to help with the production of the paper.
Many of the buildings are completely empty but the main building still has is production line with rollers that would have flattened and thinned out the paper. A roll of paper is still in the machine cut out when the final bell rung and the factory closed.
A huge tower furnace dominates the site and can be seen from miles away. A nice little explore but not too much to see. The mill will probably be knocked down or be taken over by the industrial estate which already operates on the other side of the mill.
Update - Demolishion of the site has begun to make way for housing and small factory units.
