Denbigh Hospital, or North Wales Counties Lunatic Asylum, was opened in 1848. It would care for patients from the five northern Welsh Counties. Flint, Denbigh, Merioneth, Caenarvon and Anglesea.
Closed in 1995, and has been neglected and is in a poor condition whilst a decision is made on its future.
When first visited in April 2007, majority of the aslyum was well secured, helping to protect it.
Although there was the obvious decay that you would expect from a building that had been left for ten years, vandalism was minimal and scrap thieves hadnt yet ripped apart the buildings to make a bit of money. Floors were becoming a little soft with damp and leaking water, but were still safe to walk on.
Since returning, in only a gap of four months, boarding is ripped off most of the hospital, there were kids running around inside smashing windows, pulling off sinks, and generally being as destructive as possible.
Thieves had been, as the lead flashing that kept the roof's water tight has all been stolen. Causing leaks and water damage everywhere, this is majorly affected the floors around the tower, which are collapsing and unsafe to walk on.
Soon only the beautiful stone walls will remain, with the interior totally destroyed.
Most Haunted Live are currently filming there 2008 5 day Halloween special. Which to be honest is an absolute joke. Denbigh is not haunted, nor spooky in any way. The Most Haunted team have spent alot of money making the premises safe for them and for the audience to be there, why couldnt the money be spent on making permanent repairs to the building to stop the decay of the grade II listed buildings. Its digusting that the building is allowed to fall apart.
