Who
Am I? -
Im an everyday guy with a hobby. This hobby just happen to involve old
derelict buildings that everyone else ignores.
To me they are fascinating places. So i choose to enter these buildings
to see whats inside and photograph it.
What
is Urban Exploration? -
To me Urban Exploration is discovering
what lays in our derelict
society behind those closed doors and tucked
away areas of our towns,
cities and countryside. You can find military ruins and bunkers from
the World War II and the cold war, abandoned mental asylums and
derelict industries.
These places are unlikely to be seen by the everyday public
and as redevelopment occurs these places will be lost forever, taking
their history and secrets with them.
Ignorant people stereotype "Urban Explorers" as young teenage males
with nothing better
to do than "break into buildings".
They couldnt be more wrong.
There are many female explorers out there aswell as a huge range of
ages upto and over the age of 50!!
And we're not all jobless dole scroungers, some of they people i have
explored with have high profile jobs in the city of london, aswell as
civil servents, ex-military, teachers. The list is endless.
This misconception of Urban Exploration only comes from one source, the
media. Although there is not much press around, journalists are slowly
jumping on the bandwagon of this "new craze". (although people have
been exploring for years)
Why? -
Anyone that does Urban Exploration will
have their own personal views
on why they do it.
To me it started off being a historic interest. Looking back
at our country's history, as i discovered more places to explore it
became a thrill of not knowing what i would find but also that fact i
was thinking to myself 'should i really be here'.
Along with these discoveries i now wanted to record them, so i
purchased a digital camera.
Unfortunatley some of the very first places i explored have sadly been
demolished and have no records of my visits.
Without urban explorers many places would be lost to history, but with
our photos and reports, we make sure these places are never forgotton.
